plastic lid broke July 19, 2008 I too wanted a healthier water bottle for my kids, and sending them to summer camp all day was the perfect excuse to spend good money on some. Unfortunately, my good money spent didn't equal a quality product. After only a week of using this bottle the part that you sip the water out of on the lid broke completely off. Sure, the water tastes a little funny, the bottle was noisy and it's way too cold to touch when holding icy water, but my kids didn't complain so I didn't let it bother me. But when my son came home and showed me the broken unrepairable lid I knew these bottles had to go back. I'm sad because I now need to find a suitable replacement (not a Sigg - it doesn't fit regular ice cubes, and I don't have room in the freezer to make special ice).
I love this canteen! July 19, 2008 I love this canteen! It's lightweight, easy to clean and carry and doesn't leak. The wide opening is great to load ice. It does sweat when it's hot and liquids don't stay cold long - even with the ice - but I slipped one of those can insulators on and it does the trick. It is smaller than I imagined so I'll be ordering another in a larger size. The seller shipped very fast and packed well. They'll get my business again.
Love my klean kanteen! July 19, 2008 This product has been great - its easy to carry everywhere and perfect way to cut down on cost and usage of plastic water bottles. The 40z size is good for taking to work and keeping at your desk all day. Easy to clean too. :)
Dairy! Really?!? - a review of a Klean Kanteen July 18, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This review is for other parents looking for alternatives to the pervasive plastic that litters our lives.
We just recently purchased a large KK water bottle in order to figure out whether it would be worth the 100+ bucks it would take to service us all. As a replacement for one of the ubiquitous water bottles this is very good. Obviously reusable, although I, as mom and adult, found two problems. The first is that the size of the mouth seems perfect for dribbling. A little too wide for kids... and yet, #2) not wide enough to make it an ideal dishwater candidate if you put anything other than water in it. [There is a 'shelf' where debris/stickiness could hide.]
Which brings me to milk. They actually mention putting dairy in this bottle and I suppose that would work if it was winter and you were going to be outdoors. Come on. There is no insulation here, and you'd be asking for trouble to send your child off to school with milk in this.
So what I would say is that this is a fine metal container for water. The larger size is nice for adults, smaller would probably be better for younger children. We purchased the plastic screw off cap for this test model, but are going to take a look at the sports cap for the children because of the too-wide mouth. Appropriate for any beverage that doesn't spoil (and eat plastic caps). Dishwasher safe, but not necessarily clean of all debris out of the dishwasher.

okay July 18, 2008 this kanteen is great for the environment and your health (since it's stainless steel and not plastic), but it isn't insulated so it sweats A LOT! i would prefer an insulated thermos instead.
