Slick, but heavy July 4, 2008 I purchased my mower slightly used. I love the way it performs, especially how quiet it is. It has plenty of juice to handle my modest suburban lawn, and the mulching function is terrific-it's impossible to see the tiny shreds. Since I have photo-voltaic panels on my roof, I'm also generating the power to feed the battery pack, making the entire operation very clean and resource stingy.
I have two small gripes, one of which I've heard from others: the machine is very heavy, and the fold-up handle mechanism is not nearly as sophisticated as the blade adjustment feature, which is a marvel of engineering. At least my lot is quite flat so there are no hills I have to push it up. However, I do have to fold the handle over to store the mower, and loosening the knobs each time is a bit of a hassle.
I have a gardener who helps at my place, but I'm still enjoying the mower so much I won't let him use it!
My Perfect Lawn Mower! July 4, 2008 As a single female, this is the perfect lawn mower for me. It cuts my front and back yard (about 1/4 an acre) on a single charge and it's easy to maneuver. I love the simplicity of it and it cuts evenly too. A big plus for me is not having to deal with gas, nor do I have to worry about a gas smell in my garage, like with traditional mowers. (I'm in sales and I store stock in my garage, so that's important to me). Even my neighbors have noticed it and asked several questions about it. I'm very happy with mine. I have the weed eater too and love it as well.
Dead on Arrival July 4, 2008 We had a Toro cordless for about 8 years before it died. I purchased the Black and Decker about a month ago. It arrived DOA. Fortunately I live only about 30 minutes from a service center. They said it was a switch problem. Got the mower back in a week and used it until yesterday when it died again. Same problem. Should have it back in another week. How many times can it fail before I call it a lemon.
Bad experience July 4, 2008 We ordered 2 of these, back to back. The first came with the handle bent, so that it would not slide up and down. The second came with an internal mechanism damaged so the deck did not go up and down. As these were new, I saw no reason to try to fix them, so sent them back. Both boxes (too flimsy for the product) had gashes and dents in them. Will I try again? It still had better reviews than the Homelite, so maybe.
Lovin' it! July 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using this mower for about three weeks (four mowings so far due to the high amount of rain we've been having), and I love it to bits! I've been moving toward cordless appliances since we bought our first house two years ago anyway, and when I read that the typical gas mower puts out as many emissions in an hour as the typical auto does in 350 miles of operation, I felt a special urgency to get another gas guzzler out of my life.
Our lot is fairly small (49 feet wide), so I wasn't worried about losing the charge before getting the job done -- and in the 20-25 minutes that it takes me to do the parkway, front lawn and back, it runs as strongly at the end as it does in the beginning. The mulching feature works wonderfully -- my gas mulching mower used to leave clumps of grass along the path of the wheels; haven't had that happen with my Black & Decker. I'm looking forward to years of great performance from this little gem!
