Over rated, you might want to wait! July 13, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have played alot of MMO's, I have beta tested alot of MMO's. This one by far was released way to soon. All MMO's in my opinion are released to soon, but out of all of the MMO's I have played over the years, this one has had to be the worse.
First off, this game has more memory leaks then taxis in New York. Crashing, unstable and so much PvP content that isn't even working its not funny. The best part about this game I feel is the music. I do enjoy that alot.
Second is if you have played other MMO's, this UI is horrid. Thats all I have to say about that.
Also I dont see alot of the hype either about this is an adult oriented game. Witcher has more adult content then this does, WAY MORE! And I know Witcher is not an MMO, but the graphics are better too. The graphics in AoC are nice, but not as great as everyone is boasting. If anyone has played EQ2, I want to see your rig run with custom settings with all sliders to max without serious performance issues. But you have to say each game has its perks, I think EQ2 has better lighting dynamics in their engine, but AoC has better looking world environment. Also, in AoC alot of the armor textures look 2D. Odd for boasting state of the art graphics. (If you have a DX10 rig, I know the box says DX10, but dont try to click the DX10 tab if you get it, DX10 is not in AoC yet as others have stated.) Also, alot of armor looks the same, they just changed the color. I have a very high end gaming rig and run AoC all at max settings and I nitpick everything down to the chain on armor. And funcom trying to lay blame on peoples computers is a serious pass the buck that will not help keep the population up or growing.
I do feel this game has alot of potential if Funcom works on serious issues first. As it stands, they are trying to fix things accross the board when they should be starting at the front and working their way to the back. So, if your thinking of getting AoC, all I say is you might want to wait, read up on Funcom forums or other gaming forums to see if things are fixed and improved. I am upset I spent 50 dollars on this for 30 days of play. But, I have it, and after 30 days I will wait and see if things improve.
I gave 2 stars of fun cause its so much fun having to reboot, rescan, and restart AoC every hour to keep playing. When your in a group, this is a bonus, cause no one drops at the same time so it adds to the enjoyment of it.
Overall 3 stars, cause there are a couple zones I go zone into, sit down and turn up the speakers to hear the music as I am doing things around the house. As stated, music is very good.
Not worth the money July 13, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
While the game appears amazing at first, it doesn't stay that way for long. The first 20 levels or so of AoC are absolutely amazing. The next 20 are okay, nothing special but not horrible. 40 - 50 isn't bad either. 55+ or so is awful. It is just a giant grind fest. If you want to do that might as well go play Lineage II. At least there you won't get all sorts of out of memory errors and blue screens of death.
The game has some potential, but funcom appears to be taking it in the wrong direction. Also, the game is still in its beta stage, even though they are charging you to play it.
Should have waited longer July 12, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
First Off i do not want to sound like im complaining there is too much of that out there as it is lol ... i simply want to state the facts. There is some Pro`s and cons with this game and i just want every one to know what there getting for their money Esp in this economy
Pro`s This Games highest quality is its graphics ... hands down the graphics are its best quality the Avitars you chose do not look overly cartoonish. This is a mature game so your playing with other adults .. theres mild nudity and you dont have to watch what you say... The game requires skill to play this game
The Con`s I held off this long because i hoped things would change with patches and i didnt want to give anyone a bum scoop on the game
1. The game has very poor customer service ... tried opening a ticket and it went unanswered for 5 days ... then when they did answer it the GM sent me a mail telling me i wasnt online and canceled my ticket and said open another ticket to resolve issue i must be on line lol 2. Buyer beware the game is loaded with major bugs ... the patches have not been anything about fixing bugs only nerfing / buffing characters 3. The gathering Profetions are very porly implemented all items in the gathering quests are set to rare that means you have everyone including higher lvl charecters in low lvl areas farming the monsters to get the items that = lower lvl toons not lvling. 4. performance issues that they say they will fix hasnt come yet. 5. guilds that want to go onto higher teir citys harasing lower lvl toons to get more into their guild to help them farm mats if not / not join them they gank you or kill all the NPC`s in the area so you cant lvl ... lol
This game has allot of potential and wished it didnt have all the con`s to it.. This game really should have been beta teasted alot longer than it should have .. i already reserved my copy of Aion and will switch to that in Oct Funcom has a great game in theory just very poorly implemented
Good times July 11, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a fun game. I bought this game to try it out before War Hammer Online comes out. The first 20 level mission is worth the purchase alone. The game is kind of buggy, WOW was as bad when it first came out, after a few patches it will smooth out just like WOW. Areas are zoned but quite large and have short load times between them.
The class system is more of a old school MMO, where they are not reliant on each other. Spell casters do not need someone tanking for them. they are still squishy but have buffs to protect them. Priests in this game can dish out the pain! As well as mages and tanks! Also the gore effects are lots of fun.
There is some buton mashing, making it a little more interactive like Diablo then WOW. Fun. There is some nudity/adult content which is cool too. The graphics are great. Quests are fun. The lore is very cool giving depth.
Bad- Kind of buggy as with all new MMOs. Does not have the content yet that WOW has.
Good- Graphics, adult content, story line, quests, and fatalities
I may stay with this game when War Hammer online comes out.
AoC ... so far same as the next MMO July 10, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Played AoC to lvl 22 on 2 characters a priest and a mage... I had read all the hype on the game but now having played it I find that it really isnt all that different than other MMO's
I did a review on [...] under userename Rubulator2k if your interested... thats a good place to get reviews of real HC gamers... So I'll just be star rating here...
Bottom line... nice graphics and sound (if your system is in recomended requirement spec). My general feeling is come back in a year after they shake out bugs and upgrade some of the mechanics... Peace...
