Product Description The Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) uses Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, which inflates the wrist cuff to the ideal level with each use and offers fast, personalized, and automatic inflation for maximum comfort.
Amazon.com Product Description Wrist blood pressure monitors are portable, accurate and simple to use. They provide a convenient choice for those who want a second unit for away from home or who have trouble placing a cuff on their arm. The Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) uses Omron's patented IntelliSense technology, which inflates the wrist cuff to the ideal level with each use and offers fast, personalized, and automatic inflation for maximum comfort. No adjustments are required to select an inflation level--especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders, because their blood pressure is more likely to fluctuate. And with the HEM-650's 90-memory recall with date and time stamp, as well as averaging capabilities for the last three readings, you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as your work towards a healthier lifestyle. The HEM-650 also features a system that detects an irregular heartbeat, giving you an even better understanding of your heart's health. Plus, you'll have additional peace of mind knowing that the HEM-650 comes with a 5-year warranty. Because the HEM-650 has a wrist cuff, it is particularly helpful if you have a larger than average sized arm. The monitor fits those with a wrist size of 5.25 to 8.5 inches, and it ensures easier and more comfortable use. Note, however, that a wrist monitor does require proper positioning of the device at the heart level. Correct cuff positioning is critical when monitoring blood pressure, fortunately, the HEM-650 features an advanced positioning sensor that automatically confirms that the cuff is level with the user's heart, thereby ensuring an accurate reading. It is critical that when using a blood pressure monitor the cuff is the appropriate size and is properly applied. An ill-fitting cuff or an incorrectly-applied cuff can result in inaccurate readings. Consult your doctor or the included instructions for the proper application of the cuff. Best BP cuff so far August 8, 2008 I have had 5 BP cuffs, and this is the easiest so far. I was taking my BP after exercise with a conventional cuff on the upper arm, and that type did not pick up the exercise-induced irregular heartbeat this cuff picked up. I now understand why I started to feel "funny" after exercise. I could modify my exercise program to compensate. Also, this cuff does not cause any tingling or pain in my hand as the other type did.Sooo easy to do, it's really great.
Not Very Accurate July 28, 2008 It is important that people with high blood pressure to frequently and accurately measure their blood pressure. Reporting four of five blood pressure readings a day to your doctor, gives the doctor a better picture of daily blood pressure than just on reading in the morning. To that end, I wanted a small, portable, blood pressure unit I could take to work to monitor my pressure throughout the day. I reviewed all of the information on wrist blood pressure cuffs and the Omron HEM-650 came out on top on all the reviews. With reviews that positive, I purchased the HEM-650 at my local Walmart. Well Omron must have paid for these review. I bought an HEM-650 to keep tabs on my blood pressure and it was way off. It was as much as 12 points off on systolic pressure and 10 points off on diastolic pressure consistantly!! Anyone trying to carefully monitor their blood pressure should NOT use this device. I don't know what doctors recommended this product as stated on the box, but their title probably begin with "witch". Blood pressure monitoring is way too important to trust to a device that does not perform as expected. My daughter is an RN and she said a phrase that caught my attentention that "the closer to the heart the more acccurate the measurement." Pertaining to the difference in accurace between a wrist measurment device and an arm measurement device. SHe selected an arm type automatic blood pressure monitor. I took my pressure with the HEM-650 first, then about 10 minutes later used my new automatic arm model, and then ten minutes later, my daughter took my pressure the clinical way. Her readings were within only a point or two of the arm unit, and the HEM-650 was then discovered to be as much as 12 points off on systolic pressure and 10 points off on diastolic pressure!! I give two stars to the HEM-650 but ONLY for its eas of use, small size, and portability. Caveat emptor is truly in force for this product. Barry Begault
It's a keeper! July 19, 2008 I've had high blood pressure for years and have been looking for the perfect monitor. This is as close to perfect as I've found.
Historically, wrist monitors have been innacurate. Depending on where one placed their wrist (low, high, etc), you would get different readings. This unit demands you place it in the same spot everytime or it won't work. When you have it positioned correctly, you get four little beeps and it proceeds to measure.
When I found that my rheumy and my cardiologist were both using these wrist monitors, it got my attention. So I bought one.
I used it for about a month and brought it to my appointment with my internist. We compared it with the manual cuff and found it to be within 3%.
The other GREAT factor is that my doctor could now scroll through a week or two of my home measurements! I was able to delete one HBP pill because he said "You do have white-coat syndrome, your readings are fine when you're not here."
It is also SO easy to use for anyone. The auto-inflate cuff that I used to use was OK, but difficult to get on and it didn't like a non-regular pulse. Many errors. I've only had one error in six weeks and that was because I moved to swat a fly.
You will be impressed with this device. I promise it will be the best $70 you've spent on you health (A write-off, too!).
Got my unit the first of the week and July 9, 2008 I just love it! I have another Omron with the arm cuff and much prefer this one. Easy to use. Agree with others in that it tells you where it will take the pressure--not necessarily the way the instructions show, but it works consistently. If anything happens to this one I will certainly get another one either like it or a step above. Omron is one of the best made.
My monitor is about 20 points off top reading and about 20 off bottom readying July 7, 2008 Could I be doing something wrong. It shows my blood pressure in normal to low range but when I went to doctor today, I had the nurse to test her cuff on both arms and I used mine and mine was really off. Is there a way of regulating these.
