5 out of 5 stars Don't avoid USB software   August 19, 2008
Over the last several years I have used five Sandisk Cruzer flash drives from 1g to 8g. Never a problem of any kind. At first I dumped the software that comes with them but now I use lots of it.
There is a big and growing supply of portable software. It is so cheap and handy that it provides (almost) a computer on a flash drive.
On trips, I take my laptop, but I also take a Cruzer loaded with Firefox, word processing and office software, a lightweight photo editor, Foxit (a compact pdf reader), and several others. Then, when I need to use a printer and have to use the hotel or a relative's computer to do my printing, I can use the USB software and leave nothing on the borrowed computer.
USB software and "portable software" that runs from an SDHC card is just too good for its purposes to ignore. And, Sandisk's Cruzer series has served me well with, and without, the software.

1 out of 5 stars two failed for me   August 19, 2008
I bought two of these at radio shack and they both failed. The first only showed 4.5 Gb of space the second required a reformat after it had much data on it.

Could be that the troubled radio shack chain is buying sub standard parts or got a bad lot i dunno. Just be careful.

4 out of 5 stars Light and abit flimsy   August 18, 2008
I upgraded to this Cruzer from the Titanium 4GB its not as heavy nearly half the weight and feels kinda weak but it does the job. So in my opinion nice buy for the size and price if you want guaranteed safety from breaking get the Titanium 8GB

5 out of 5 stars my own portable OS. But it is limited...   August 13, 2008

Well, I loved the U3 idea! A whole system in a pendrive. Everything I use backed up and still functional. Safety in public computers or lan houses! But I soon realized that it has limitations. Can't work without admin privilegies the first time it is plugged in a new computer to install letter drivers... also, I think developers should pay more attention to this tecnology (with care). I really would like to see big soft players creating U3 softwares. Sorry for my english. I speak portuguese.

2 out of 5 stars not ideal for laptops: annoying dimming in/out & blinking   August 9, 2008
2 out of 5 found this review helpful

Got this 8GB Cruzer as an upgrade from my good, old, 1GB Cruzer. Same form factor, better speed, same annoying U3 (easier to remove this time).
Most annoyingly, the thing always has a "look-at-me and get distracted from your work" feature: it does not stop from either dimming in and out (when idle), or blinking (when accessing files on it).
Do not buy, unless you can plug it in an out of sight USB slot. If, like me, you use the slot on the side of the laptop, keep looking. I got an "off brand" one - same speed (measured by myself), no U3, no "look-at-me".
