Great Guide Book June 2, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This guide has all the famous walks and scrambles you could want on Skye. It will inspire confident scramblers to go out and do some of the easier climbs too. Route descriptions are good and diagrams clear. The Cuillin Traverse is well described at the back. Far better than the other Skye scrambling guide which quotes you miles and furlongs! Some of the English and Welsh guides have Grade 3 scrambles that include Mod or Diff climbs - here they are separated out so you will find the scrambling grades a bit easier than you are used to.
A definitive guide to mountain scrmbles on Skye August 8, 2001 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is more just a book of scrambles but also a guide to the history of mountaineering on this famous scottish island. The route descriptions are clear and concise but with a great history section also entice you on to the mountains with its tales of adventure and endeavor by first ascentionist parties and the Skye Pioneers. While the route descriptions are good the diagrams could be better. The vagaries of Skye weather mean that you still need a good map to make sure that you can follow the route (Harveys 1:25000 map is excellent with just the right amount of detail). I like this book because it has good interesting route descriptions, a good range of scrambles for all abilities. It is also a practical book to take out on the hill with its plastic softback cover and is the right size to easily fit in to your inside jacket pocket.
