5 out of 5 stars As far as I know, the best that's out there   May 4, 2007
We bought this in the book shop in Leh, August 2006. A really invaluable aid especially for the baby trek from Likir to Temisgam where you don't really need a pony man.

The maps are, apart from the odd missing bridge (Ladakh had some very heavy rains last year), very clear and accurate.

Charlie also has some very good advice as regards respecting local custom. And the odd ladaki phrase came in useful if only to bring a smile to the faces of the some locals.

Overall, excellent. We will be using it this year trekking up in the Nubra Valley :)

5 out of 5 stars A great help   December 28, 2005

On a visit to Ladakh in 2004 I came across this book at a local guest house and was fortunate enough to borrow it for my time in Ladakh. I only did a couple of the simpler trails that are detailed in the book, but without guides even the simplest of trails in Ladakh could become tricky.

All the routes are illustrated with hand-drawn maps, which for a real map-lover such as myself, were suprising easy to read and provided essential pointers about directions to take at certain points. My time in Ladakh was too short, and when I arrived back in the UK I immediately bought this book and am planning another trip as soon as time will allow.
