Skinner's team come of age June 9, 1999 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The latest in Quintin Jardine's series about Edinburgh Police Chief, Bob Skinner. I have found that as the series develops, so the characters in the series become more believeable. In Murmuring the judges we see Bob move further upstairs and leave the limelight to his underlings whom I feel are much more colourful and interesting people. As usual you are left guessing right until the end, although there seem to be a couple of loose ends - maybe they will be cleared up in the next one.
Involving modern Scottish murder mystery April 22, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have enjoyed all the Skinner books - perhaps it helps being able to relate to the geographical settings. Although the plots are slightly contrived, the whole series is a wonderful set of detective stories that will get you thinking - this book is a welcome addition. The procedural/legal/police parts of the books are well written and researched, the only parts that let these books down is the personal relationships of the main characters which are also rather contrived, and seem to lack the depth apparant in the actual detective parts of the books. A well written and interesting book to read and worth coming back to again and again - although I suggest you start with the first book in the series, Skinner's Rules, as this sets up a lot of the situations that are continued through the rest of the series and would otherwise make no sense.
Step forward for a stunning series November 4, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Murmuruing the Judges takes Jardine's tough-as-nails Edibnburgh cop, Bob Skinner to a new level of maturity as his city is ravaged by two crime waves, each of a totally different nature. The eighth novel in the SKinner series gives the author to explore the personalities of some of the supporting characters in the series as the Edinburgh police force is stretched to the limit to end a wave of violence which is terrorising its citizens and at the same time trace a mystery man whois pursuing a deadly vendetta against Scotland's most senior judges. The crime read of the year.
