Early days, but not perfect... September 1, 2008 Firstly, the instructions are abysmal, with no detailed instructions on how to wire, nor how to assemble the RAM mount. They say to take it to an installer, but what are they supposed to use for instructions? I still have bits in the box, and have no idea what they are for. The maps supplied were out of date, and when I queried this on line, I was told they were the most current at the time of purchase. At least 6 months out of date, and thinks the Forth Bridge still has a toll, and has shown me riding through fields on several occasions already. After riding 330 miles from Leicester to Scotland in the rain, the Cardo headset was full of water, which squidged out when I hit the off button. When we started off again, all I got was a loud screeching noise, every time the engine was running, and after another couple of miles, the TomTom itself started switching itself on and off. I had set the preferences to automarically switch on when power is applied, and the unit cycled on and off constantly, providing a bad distraction when riding through the dark and wet streets of Edinburgh. Have to wait until it all dries out to see what happens next, but it's meant to be for bikes, and it should be able to withstand what passes for summer weather in this country. The statement that it's easy to use with gloved hands simply isn't true. Many of the keys are far too close to the edge of the screen, and virtually impossible to choose even with ungloved hands. With gloves on, you can forget entering your post code. Takes several frustrating attempts with frequent back spaces to get anything entered. Agree with above that the on-off button is a joke. Small point, but is it beyond the wit of man to provide one charger for the TomTom and the Headset...? That said, the unit seems sturdy, and the RAM mount is a big improvement over the Rider 1. Functionality is OK, but you need to mess around to find all the features. Intuitive though. The misbehaving in the wet is a worry.
TOMTOM rider V2 August 2, 2008 A brilliant navigator let down by frankly appalling build quality. I am giving up with mine and buying a Zumo. It's my 2nd Rider - I had the V1 which also packed up. I kept faith with a good design and I feel a bit of a mug. A real pity. The system is excellent, the quality control in my experience is rubbish. Perched on the front of a high mileage 1200GS is a tough environment but hardly a suprising one.

Customer support is terrible. July 1, 2008 I have three TomTom devices so I am fan of their technical ability to navigate you around the globe. The probem is when you need support. You have to go online and wade through a time consuming process designed not to help but to put you off ever bothering them. Just getting a few mounting bolts that were missing from the Rider 2 pack took over a month to arrive and required the scanning and e-mailing receipts. 'TomTom Home' which is required to manage maps, produced a conflict in my computer that stops the use of the internet and the tomtom device at the same time making the downloading of maps impossible. Tedious!
Great Piece of Kit. May 28, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This arrived today and after thinking spending almost 300 for a satnav was a hell of a lot, but i think its worth it. It links to my LG U990 (viewty) well allowing me to send and receive calls etc. When i was out testing it and trying to make it confused it always recalculated routes within seconds and has a sexy voice ;) The only thing i'm not to keen on is that the mounting kit. It makes my bike look a bit dodgy but fortunatly with the ram kit you can take most of it off with little fuss.
I found it difficult to get used to and set up at first. (especially as it wouldn't find signal when i was trying to do it indoors) but once it finally found signal it picks it up within seconds now.
I would recomend to anyone who is after one for their bike.
Tip Notch product. Just dont come off when your phone rings.

I was disapointed with the TomTom Rider V2. Yes it navigates well and the scala rider earpiece works well, i like being able to receive mobile calls.
I have used a TomTom one V3 in a car. The tomtom one is half the price and much quicker at picking up satellites and calculating routes.I was very impressed with the "Safety" camera alerts on the One. This was the main reason I bought the rider.
I was dismayed to discover that I can't change the proximity (for safety cameras) alerts on the rider. Neither can I change or select the audible warnings. I prefer different sounds for traffic light cameras and speed cameras. The unit itself seems excessively bulky, this isn't a problem on the bike but when you park and put the unit in a jacket pocket it can be. The on/off switch is a nightmare, there is no positive click and it can take some time to operate. The rider feels like old technology compared to the one, it is sometimes a bit slow with its directions in central London.
I know the scala rider and Ram kit inflate the cost and the alternatives for a bike are more expensive but it seems pricey compared to the car versions. Value for money? does what it says, would be great if tomtom could sort out proximity alerts
