1 out of 5 stars The worst attitude to customer service ever...   December 18, 2007

TomTom that is, not Amazon, who are unfailingly wonderful.

To avoid experiencing their obstinate, customer is always wrong approach, buy another brand of sat nav!

3 out of 5 stars Home Delivery Network ltd beware!!!   December 14, 2007
8 out of 11 found this review helpful

Just recently received my Tom Tom sat nav. Amazon were efficient in processing their order as ever but delivery was shocking! HDN ltd left my sat nav under a step with no card through the letter box to inform me. No one could find the package for up to 4 days. 150 pounds worth of stock left out in the cold. Be very aware about this company in future.

4 out of 5 stars Couple of problems otherwise a great device   December 12, 2007

Let's get the bad news out of the way first
1) The supplied windscreen mount isn't big enough. In my car I couldn't even touch the screen from a driving position. I bought the Alternate Mount Kit and that came with a dashboard mount so my Tom Tom is now in a perfect position (and easier to remove too)
2) I bought the traffic edition of the TT One XL and I have not yet been able to get the RDS traffic alerts to work at all. Internet forums are full of people saying that TMC just doesn't work.

Otherwise - it's an excellent piece of kit. Route finding is spot on, the maps are very clear and the interface easy to use. I especially appreciate the warning sound when I stray over the speed limit.

A couple of tips
1) You really must update the device every few days using the excellent Tom Tom Home software to maintain the GPS fix information - otherwise it can take several minutes to lock onto your position
2) Don't enter your actual home address as your "home location" otherwise it becomes a homing beacon for anyone who steals it. Instead enter somewhere close by such as a supermarket or police station.

2 out of 5 stars Plug & Go - works straight out of the box - my ONE XL didn't   December 6, 2007

Amazon delivered TomTom in amazingly an efficient fashion, took it out of the box, went through a few screens and then 'map not found' - tried the online support option on the TomTom home system (the programme supplied with the TomTom) but the link didn't work. Amazon replaced the device with even greater efficiency than the first time, the second device did - Plug & Go - works straight out of the box. Seems to do what it is supposed to do in a logical kind of way which is all I really wanted but even from the very first use the inaccuracies in the mapping were obvious. If the first one had worked I may have been a little more charitable towards the TomTom ONE XL but it is just another example of the substandard quality control that is so common in the electronics market

4 out of 5 stars good navigation poor mounting   November 26, 2007

It is a good satellite navigator, I love using it. Now my wife can go alone with out fear of getting lost. But the mount is of poor quality and the navigator keeps falling off the screen.
