A Giallo film starring Paul Naschy June 26, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Spanish horror star Paul Naschy stars in this excellent giallo film. A series of "Jack The Ripper" style murders take place in London. Paul Naschy plays an ex trapeze artist whose wife is one of the Rippers victims, and becomes the prime suspect. This film has all the trademarks of a giallo film including bizarre suspects, nudity, a funky 70's score and of course plenty of gory murders. The print is in 2.35 widescreen and is rather grainy and washed out. There arn't any special features which is a shame. Still this is an entertaining film and fans of giallo should snap it up.

The story..There's a killer on the loose brutally slaying prostitutes with similar techniques used by Jack the Ripper. When the husband of one of the women killed becomes the prime suspect he has to evade police capture and find out for himself who's responsible. I only first heard of this horror recently so i wasn't expecting much when i saw it. However, i was surprised as this is an entertaining giallo as good as many from the time (made in 1971). The direction is not as superior as Martino,Argento or Fulci films but the build up and staging of the murder scenes is fairly well done (there's a great intro) but most importantly it's just a very enjoyable watch. The story and on going police investigation is good and never really gets too dull as there's always a murder just around the corner. The killings themselves are decent with many gory stabbings on offer. This dvd release is region 0 and the picture quality is great but unfortunately it's lacking any real extras.
