Billy Connelly should be knighted June 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As always Billy Connelly refreshingly cuts through the crap of political correctness with his outrageously funny outlook on everyday life. It takes a real talent to hold his audience's attention & Billy still has it in bucket loads. If you've liked his previous DVD's then you'll enjoy this. My only criticism is the last sketch goes on a little too long. He should be knighted for his contribution to British entertainment.
One of His best April 5, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't know why some thought this performance poor. No doubt that this is some of his best stuff. If you liked him before you'll definately like this DVD.
Funniest DVD on the market March 26, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, it just goes to show that you can't please everyone. Here I was about to write a glowing review of Billy's latest - and I see all those earlier comments, slagging it off good and proper. All I can say is that this is the only DVD I have ever watched where I actually had to pause the thing in order to avoid personal injury. My wife and I, and the friends we were watching with, were all laughing so hard that anything from a cracked rib to cardiac arrest might easily have ensued were it not for the blessed relief of the remote control. All hail to the mighty Billy - definitely worth adding to the collection.
What a let down. January 28, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am so used to laughing until I cry at Billy's comedy. What has happened? At first I thought it was because I was quite put off by his out and out racism near the start - he showed his true colours which was very sad, disappointing. No Billy, you of all people should know, a joke is only a joke if done with good humor, not with malicious intent, so stop jumping on the band wagon and using that old excuse over the cartoon! And you badly need some research into politics and foreign policy. However, after putting that aside and hoping he would get into his usual comedy stride but to no avail - the odd giggle but no side splitting bouts at all.In fact, tedious is a word that came to mind on more than one occasion. Like the Osbournes, he is definitely too up his own these days and has lost touch with the down to earth observations and stories that we all loved him for.
Is Billy suffering from burn-out? January 5, 2008 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
I hate to be negative, but I believe this has to be said, as Billy Connolly is a living legend, but this DVD shouldn't have been released. I've seen him live and have some of his earlier DVDs and his performances have always been excellent. However, I don't know if he's lost his touch, or if this was just an off-night, but he just came across as a really angry bloke, rather than the really funny angry bloke I remember. There's a lot about this world at the moment to be very angry about, and he hit the nail on the head many times, and this was refreshing as he vehemently defied the PC brigade. But Billy's anger and cynicism seems to have taken over, and the unique humour and observational wit was lost on this occasion. Don't take my word for it, you may love it. There are some quite funny moments, but not quite enough of them. I still take my hat off to a man who can do stand-up for 2 hours without a break, but this performance doesn't really hit the spot. He's lost that spark he used to have, and appeared tired and aged. Crikey, even some of the people in the front row of the audience, who the camera frequently panned to, appeared mostly bemused rather than amused.
