If you want beautiful scenery, friendly people, great food then we can recommend Dunkeld to you, it is simply our favourite place to go for lunch and shopping, or simply for a lazy day out. In many ways Dunkeld is a real traditional Scottish town and the Scotland I remember from my youth with traditional butchers and grocers shops that make you wish supermarkets had never been built, so if you want to experience traditional Scotland and buy Scottish then visit Dunkeld.
Dunkeld is also famous for the River Tay, a well known and loved salmon river and if the conditions are correct you will see boats on the river, or people fishing from the bank in wadders. It is exciting when you watch someone catch a salmon, even better if you are the one doing the catching. Many salmon are returned unharmed for conservation purposes on a catch and return basis.
Hilton Dunkeld is simply stunning with views from the hotel over the Tay. Surrounded by wonderful countryside it is simply paradise to anyone wanting to get away from the stresses of modern living. If you love the countryside you will love this very special Hilton hotel where you can stroll among the woodlands and gardens, or sit and relax outdoors over a drink or meal. On our visit to Dunkeld Hilton we heard many birds in the woodland including woodpeckers, so remember to take binoculars with you and not only will you hear the woodpeckers you probably will be able to see them as well.
If you are interested in visiting Dunkeld then you may also want to consider bed and breakfast. If you want to meet local people then b&b is the way to travel, you also get a full Scottish breakfast that will keep you going well into the day.
